'Masks' by Darren Rigo featured in our 8TH exhibition.
Darren Rigo is a Toronto-based artist who spends his time creating images inspired by the ways we connect with natural environments. His practice is built upon his experiences with the rural landscape growing up, his return to the land, and his collaborations with the natural elements in these surroundings. He received a BFA from OCAD University where he majored in photography. Recent solo exhibitions include ‘The Woods’ at Harcourt House, Edmonton, and ‘a funny thing’ at Harbourfront Center, Toronto. His work has been commissioned by SickKids Hospital, Harbourfront Centre and Plazacorp Investments and is included in the collections of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Fredericton and the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts, Japan. Most recently he completed a residency and exhibition at Akiyoshidai International Artist Village in Japan.
"It is part of my nature to seek solitude once in a while. If I am stuck in the city for too long of a stretch, I feel compelled to go roam in the wild. Every time I go I happen upon a funny thing or two; this could be an unusual mushroom, tree that grew in a strange shape or an unusual marking left behind by some unknown creature. Nature always offers up these surprising curiosities that draw me back and keep me interested in spending time away from it all." - Darren Rigo.
